MFFL

If you did not submit a supplemental pick, please do so BEFORE kickoff for week 6. However, I make no guarantees as to when the player will be added to your team. Especially if the supplemental is submitted at 11:59 with the expectations for the player to be available for week 6. No submissions will be accepted after kick off of week 6.

For those that did submit supplemental picks:
Please check your rosters, the players should appear from week 6 forward and on your starter forms.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks to all for another great year of fantasy football!
I've got a few more enhancements planned, and hopefully I'll be able to implement them during the off season.

*** PLEASE READ ***

For some reason or another, there were a few teams that had extra players added to their starting rosters for week 14. At first I chalked it up to user error; but it seemed more and more cases were popping up. Whether it was a system error, user error, or possibly a hack; the fact still remains that there were enough cases to merit an inquiry (I think there was a total of 5 teams). After checking the database and log files, I found an irregularity where some strange database queries were logged. Perhaps it was a random database hack that was looking for a hole; but at this point its still a guess.

For the teams that were affected, I had to apply a rule of thumb I've had for years: to fill the roster positions with players alphabetically. This might sound crazy and unfair, but it allows me to make the adjustments with a blind eye as to who might have started and who wouldn't have, etc. Any argument that falls into the realm of speculation is thrown out.

I the list of teams that were affected in my notes, I'll listed them here once I get them in order. If these owners feel they have been cheated in any way please email me to discuss; and please include the roster that you remember submitting. I'll try my best to resolve the issue.

*** Edit ***
Charlotte Rogues
The Losers
Multiple Concussions
Precarious Picks
*** End ***

While the system is not completely fool proof, I thought I had enough checks and logs to prevent issues like this. As a solution, I added some code last night such that when a starting roster is submitted to the database, a copy of the roster is automatically emailed to me as a secondary log. This way I'll have a backup of every roster submitted. When you submit your starting roster, the system will also show you the roster it has sent to me. My email copy also includes a few other things to help me identify that it is coming through your MFFL user account.

I take full responsibility for what happened, though I have no concrete explanation for what happened, I should have had a better backup plan in place. Hopefully, the secondary email log will provide this function, and still be invisible to you.

Scott

More information:

I went and checked the server logs from the hosting company, and they had some downtime early Monday on the server that hosts MFFL. I'm trying to dig into what happened, but they haven't been to willing to offer information at this point. Which leads me to believe that someone was trying to hack the entire host server and was pinging everything to find a hole. Perhaps they found a way in, and thus the down time on Monday.

I think if the hole was found to be in the MFFL code, the host would have notified me and/or shut down the site to close the hole.

Copied from the orginal notice for reference:

We're going to experiment with the roster deadlines (it'll probably come back to bite me):

For players playing in the Thursday games - See Note from Commish

You can either choose to start or not start these players.

Once the deadline has passed, I will take a snap shot of all the starting rosters to see who has been started and who hasn't been.

For players playing Sunday and Monday - See Note from Commish

If you started or sat a player in the Thursday games, please duplicate this in the new roster. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETE ROSTER.

Honor system in play. Remember I'll have the snap shot of the starters Thursday to check. If there are differences in the starting rosters, I reserve the right to insert (or remove) the offending players from the starting lineup and replace them with the worst scoring player at that position for the week...

(Kerry: if this becomes a pain in the ass, I blame you! )
